Michelle Gibson is a junior in new media from Rockford, Ill. She plans to specialize in emerging media, emphasizing digital documentary as an
educational tool.
Michael Porcaro Scholarship
Tara Kulash is a sophomore in news/editorial from Glen Carbon, Ill. She plans to write for a magazine as well as design page layouts. She hopes to eventually
become a magazine editor.
Ryan Rendleman Photojournalism Scholarship
Ana DeUnamino is a sophomore in photojournalism from Rolla, Mo. She would like to work as a photojournalist for a magazine similar to National Geographic.
She is fluent is Spanish and hopes to utilize it as a cultural photojournalist.
Pat Sutphin is a junior in photojournalism from Genoa, Ill. He plans to move to North Carolina to work at a local newspaper to build his portfolio. Later, he
plans to work at the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting.

Southern Illinois Editorial Association Scholarships
Kenneth Dixon is a sophomore in news/editorial from Richton Park, Ill.
He plans to write novels, do free-lance photography and start his own art
magazine.
Shontae Wilmore is a junior in advertising Chicago, Ill. She plans to get her
masters degree, then work as an account executive at an advertising agency.
William Lyons Scholarship
Angela Dunn is a junior in news/editorial from Ohio, Ill. She would like to
work at a small town newspaper as a reporter and then an editor. In the
future, she plans to get her masters degree and look for job opportunities to
use her Spanish skills.

Riley Swinford is a freshman from Marion, Ill. and looks forward to a
career in journalism.
Small-Seright Scholarship
Alyssa Long is a freshman in photojournalism from Effingham, Ill. After
graduating, she plans join the Peace Corps for two years to use her
photography skills and Spanish minor. Eventually, she would like to
work for a distinguished publication such as National Geographic.

DE Outstanding Newsroom Senior of the Year
Nick Johnson is a senior studying news-editorial journalism from Cary, Ill. He
worked for his high school and community college papers before coming to SIUC.
Nick will graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in journalism with minors in
Spanish and history. His hobbies include sports, drumming, and racing narwhals
in the frigid waters off the coast of Antarctica.
DE Outstanding Newsroom Rookie of the Year
Brandon Coleman is a senior from Chicagoland studying news/editorial
journalism. He grew up with twin brother Brian and younger brother Kevin.
There are few things in life he enjoys more than cheesecake. Coleman says he
owes his maturation as writer and reporter to the skills he learned in English,
the Daily Egyptian and guidance from mentors William Recktenwald and Eric
Fidler.
DE Advertising Outstanding Senior
Sarah Hubbs is a senior in journalism from Mahomet, Ill. Sarah is currently the
Advertising Manager at the DE and has also been an advertising sales rep since
Sept. 2009. She has had many great academic opportunities at SIU including a
trip to the island of Palau to conduct research. After graduation, Sarah will be
moving to Chicago to begin her career in the advertising industry.
DE Outstanding Advertising Rookie of the Year
Brooke Pippins is a junior studying journalism. As a past student caller for the
SIU Foundation, she has raised over $30,000 for Southern Illinois University.
She began working as an advertising sales rep for the DE in Sept. 2010 and has
been a member of Circle K International since Sept. 2009.
Best Supporting Role
Nicholas Schloz is a graphic designer from Decatur, Ill. He attended SIUC
beginning in 2006 and graduated December 2010. He worked as a designer
the DE's ad production department for 2 semesters before becoming the ad
production manager. He is currently working in Riverton, Ill., as a designer
for "Mad Menus" and "Game Theory, LLC" in San Francisco.
James Murphy Memorial Scholarship
Brooke Grace is a photojournalism masters student from Carbondale, Ill. She
plans to get a job in the field of photojournalism.
Steven B. Hahn Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is being used to recruit 5 new students from Illinois to the
School of Journalism.
Polly Robinson Memorial Scholarship
Karl Bullock is a junior in news/editorial from Bellwood, Ill. He plans to
work as a writer for a newspaper or magazine; he also plans to start his own
magazine.
Nicolette Holstein is a junior in news/editorial from New Lenox, Ill. She
plans to move to a metropolitan area and write for an entertainment
publication. She wants to become a music journalist and one day to write for
Rolling Stone Magazine.
Linda K. Henson Photojournalism Scholarship
Danielle McGrew is a junior in photojournalism from Flora, Ill. She plans to
